I was undecided what I wanted to do as a topic for my fire project. However, when Ms. Hogan brought alumni and community members that working to make a difference in our community I started to reflect what I wanted to do as my fire project. Many of the presenters inspired me in various ways; however, behind the message of each person they spoke about what inspired them. As an older sister I held a responsibility as a role model of two younger siblings. I have a younger three-year-old brother. I do not want my baby brother to get abused physically or emotionally. He is a precious blessing that came into my family’s life and deserves to live in a healthy environment. This is the fire inside of me that angers me to see children abused, hit, and bruised. Sadly, my cousins were taken away from my aunt because of child abuse and neglect. My generation till this day faces abuse and not much is done.
I can’t specifically state how many hours I spent on the fire project; however, I did spend about two hours researching different websites. Writing the papers took me about an hour and a half. I assumed because it was a pretty accessible research topic, I thought it would be easier to find my information. Constantly, I found myself thinking my project was really broad and should of narrow it down. But I was also was worried my project would be too narrow. That’s when I decided to leave my project as it is, and research a little of everything.
Managing the fire project was an obstacle for me. Having three AP classes it was hard balancing study time and fire project papers. Teachers were expecting a lot of work couple days before the AP test, which gave me very little time to have full focus in my fire project. I’m currently working as well, which I made it a little more of struggle, but it’s nothing I can’t do.
I can definitely tell the difference between my writing from the begging of my freshman year. I though I was not capable to write this many pages. I have grown as a writer in various ways; however, I believe I still have more room for improvement. I want to thank every single teacher for helping through my high school journey; every teacher has build my character through their knowledge and teaching.
