Many question come to mind as to what ways to conduct a research project. For my Fire Project my focus is child abuse. Spanking is common punishment parent’s use as a way to discipline children. However, for years it has been debated if spanking is an effective and beneficial for children. Research has shown children who get spanked by their parents feel rejected and feel no love or acceptance from the parent who uses physical punishment. Children begin to develop lack of affection, indifference, and parents’ coldness. I would like to conduct a research to find out if there is an association with the following questions I will ask students from Social Justice High School. First question will be gender female or male? Second question, is considering your future parenting styles would you spank your child? Third question, would be how would you consider your parent’s parenting styles? The individuals will have three options to choose from authoritarian, authoritative, permissive. I took in consideration that the under classman may not be informed what these words mean, so I will provide a clear definition of all three words. Among these three questions I want to see if any of these have an association. My null hypothesis is there will be no association with the three fallowing question. The alternative hypothesis is that there will be an association between the three questions. The response variable is going to be yes or no and explanatory variable will be male and female. My data collection will not include quantitative data. The questions will be answered to obtain categorical. These question will help me have an idea what type of punishments my classmates would use and how even though many research has found evidence that spanking is not a successful alternative, with my data presented and fire project I can advocate against spanking. The third question will To carry out this research I will be conducting a one-proportion z test. A chi- square test will be used for my third question to find if there is an association. My subjects will be student from all grade levels from freshman to seniors. There will be no bias in conducting this experiment because they will be selected in a simple random sample. There response will be confidential because it remain anonymous. Forty randomly selected student will be asked during lunch or passing periods this meets the random condition. Having forty students it will meet the normal condition of np and n(1-p), which has to be more than 10. Each student will also be independent of each other. Not having their having to put their name makes confidential and more willingly to answer with truth.
